How a Tiny Magnet Helped Me Remember My Best Friend 🐾

The following is a true story shared by one of our customers.
It's deeply personal, and with their permission, we’re honored to share it here.
Sometimes, a small item—like a tiny magnet—can hold a lifetime of love and memory. This is one of those times.

My Silent Childhood and the Dog That Changed Everything

When I was young, I was diagnosed with mild autism. My parents tried everything—therapy, playgroups, music—but nothing really clicked. I stayed mostly silent, emotionally distant, even with those who loved me most.

Then came my 8th birthday.
My parents told me they had a surprise for me. I didn’t feel much—birthdays were never exciting to me. But then I saw him. A six-month-old white puppy with soft fur and the most curious eyes. The moment we met, he started circling my feet as if he already knew me.

I named him Buddy.

From that day forward, we were inseparable. Every day after school, every night before bed—Buddy was there. And slowly, my family started to notice the difference. I laughed more. I talked more. I even made a few friends through the neighborhood dog park. It was like Buddy opened a door I didn’t know was locked.

The Years Flew By, and So Did Buddy

Childhood flew by, as it always does. I grew up. And Buddy, like all dogs, aged much faster than I did. On his 14th year, we started noticing the signs. He couldn’t run like he used to, slept longer, and one day, he just couldn’t stand anymore.

We lost him that winter. I was shattered.

I kept everything—his tiny sweater, his bed, even the water bowl. But no matter how much I held onto, something always felt missing. I missed seeing his face every day.

Seven Years Later, a Chance Encounter Online

Now I’m married, with a child of my own. My daughter has her own “Buddy”—a fluffy golden retriever who loves her fiercely. And still, I found myself missing my Buddy, especially watching them together.

One night, I was scrolling online and saw something that stopped me cold:
A small fridge magnet with a pet’s face on it. I clicked instantly.

I dug through my old photo albums to find a picture of Buddy. It wasn’t very clear—it had been taken over a decade ago—but I uploaded it anyway. Then I found the email for the shop, Care & It, and sent a message explaining who Buddy was.

What happened next made all the difference.

They replied the next day, telling me they’d forward the image to their design team. Over the next few days, they worked with me to enhance and clean up the photo, making sure Buddy looked just as I remembered.

The Moment I Held Buddy Again

When the package arrived, I opened it slowly. The magnet was small, light, and beautifully detailed.

And then I saw his face.

It was exactly him—his bright eyes, the slight tilt of his ears, the way his fur curled at the edges. I burst into tears. Not from sadness, but from gratitude. For the first time in years, I felt like I had a piece of him back.

This little magnet now sits on our fridge, right next to my daughter’s art and family photos. And every time I walk by, I smile. Buddy’s home again.
